Acupath Laboratories Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when the nation becomes awash in pink, from lapel ribbons, to pink clothing and car magnets. Despite the success of the pink ribbon campaign at raising awareness of the disease, the fight to end breast cancer is not over, says Olga Falkowski, M.D., a board-certified pathologist who serves as the Medical Director and Director of Molecular Genetics at Acupath Laboratories, Inc., a national medical laboratory based in Plainview, N.Y.

"Not enough women take advantage of the information we have available about how to prevent breast cancer and detect it at an early stage," she said. "This is vital to increasing a woman's chances of survival."

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women 20 to 59 years old and the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Roughly 200,000 American women are diagnosed each year and more than 40,000 die from the disease, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Dr. Falkowski offers five simple steps to help take control of your breast cancer risk:

1) Exercise, eat well and keep your weight in check. Studies show that women who exercise regularly, eat a nutritious, low-fat diet and limit alcohol consumption are less likely to develop breast cancer. A study published in June 2012 in the journal, Cancer, found that physical activity--either mild or intense--may reduce breast cancer risk, but substantial weight gain can negate the benefits.

2) Get regular breast cancer screenings. In addition to performing monthly breast self-exams beginning in your twenties, the American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older undergo annual screening mammograms (an x-ray of the breast that can find cancer before symptoms arise). If the findings are abnormal a woman may also need to have additional imaging tests like a breast MRI or ultrasound, or a breast biopsy, which is examined under a microscope to see if cancer cells are present. "The only way to know for sure whether it's cancer or not is to have a breast biopsy," says Dr. Falkowski. "A biopsy can detect cancer at its earliest stages, when the chances of treating it are best." When breast cancer is diagnosed in its earliest stages the five year survival rate is close to 100%, according to the College of American Pathologists.

3) Find out whether you are at high risk for breast cancer. Talk to your doctor about learning whether you carry inherited gene mutations such as BRCA1 or BRCA2 that increase your risk of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer. In addition to advancing age, additional risk factors include beginning menstruation before age 12, starting menopause after age 55, being obese, a smoker, or eating a diet high in fat and red meat.

4) Consider additional breast cancer testing. Women at high risk of breast cancer should talk with their doctor about new tools that can identify potentially dangerous cells years before an actual tumor forms. Dr. Falkowski encourages women as young as 25 to consider risk assessment tests like HALO, a new test that uses fluid gently aspirated from the nipples to determine the presence of abnormal cells that put a woman at greater breast cancer risk. "This test has the ability to identify these cells up to eight years before a lesion can be seen or felt," says Dr. Falkowski. "This test gives women with abnormal results the opportunity to stay on alert and take needed interventions early—before cancer or a tumor has even formed."

5) If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, make sure you are getting cutting-edge treatments. Women with breast cancer should also be aware of advanced diagnostic tools that can improve survival rates. For example, genetic H women's jackets ER-2/neu FISH testing, a sophisticated laboratory test able to better determine treatment options for an aggressive form of breast cancer, is useful in helping doctors tailor the course of treatment for each patient. Under U.S. Food & Drug Administration guidelines, all women with invasive breast cancer are eligible to undergo the test, but many women are not aware that it is an option. "What makes HER-2/neu FISH testing more effective than a typical laboratory workup is it has the advantage of looking at each tumor cell individually," says Dr. Falkowski.

Perfectly Natural Hair Loss Remedies And Treatments

Interesting bit of trivia: the word alopecia is formed from the Greek word meaning fox; the origin comes from the fact that the fox sheds its coat twice a year. The average human head has about 100,000 hair follicles; each follicle can grow about 20 individual hairs during a person women's jackets online 's lifetime. About 90 percent of the hair on the scalp is growing at any one time while about 10 percent of the hair is in a resting phase; after two to three months, the resting hair falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place.

Some mycotic infections can cause massive hair loss. If a medicine is causing your hair loss, your doctor may be able to prescribe a different medicine or you may find you really don't need the medicine at all. In the past it was believed that baldness was inherited from a person's maternal grandfather; while there's some basis for this belief, both parents contribute to their offspring's likelihood of hair loss.

About three or four months after an illness or a major surgery, you can suddenly temporarily lose a large amount of hair; this hair loss is related to the stress of the illness. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it's important to find the cause so that it can be treated properly and fast. Poor digestion, parasites and nutrient deficiencies such as iron or biotin deficiency shouldn't be overlooked as possible causes.

Temporary loss of hair can occur in areas where sebaceous cysts are present for one week to several weeks in length. Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss, especially thinning of the outer third of the eyebrows. Some drugs or medications can cause hair loss, which improves when you stop taking the medicine; medications that can cause hair loss include blood thinners, medicines used for gout, chemotherapy drugs used for cancer, too much vitamin A supplementation, birth control pills and antidepressants.

There are natural home remedies and many recipes for making mixtures to apply topically to the scalp. Products for hair loss include: shampoos, shampoos and conditioners, conditioners, lotions, creams, concealers, thinning hair shampoos, laser combs, laser brushes, the Lasertron Hair Growth Brush, herbal based products, chemical based pills or tablets, Nizoral shampoo, Neutrogena T-Gel, and many others. Immunosuppressants applied to the scalp have been shown to temporarily reverse alopecia areata, though the side effects of some of these drugs make this therapy questionable.

Surgery is another method of reversing hair loss and baldness, although it may be considered an extreme measure. Studies done on subjects of various ages suggests that weight training alone may increase testosterone in studies where aerobic exercise only was compared to either weight training or a moderately sedentary life. Very little testing has been done on the long-term effects of Minoxidil on women.

Minoxidil is a drug that's used daily to prevent hair loss but may create heart problems; the hair it grows is very fine, only on the top of the head and may fall out again soon after the drug is stopped. Hair loss treatments and remedies range in price from free to expensive. Minoxidil is a very expensive drug, costing about one hundred dollars per month for daily treatment.

Rub vitamin E oil into the scalp nightly. Massage the scalp nightly with an oil made of one part rosemary oil and two parts almond oil. Resveratrol, from grape skins, is a lipase inhibitor and by decreasing the body's ability to absorb fat through the intestine walls, it reduces the total fat and calorie content of a person's diet.

Make sure to test remedies on a small area first and check with your hair loss doctor or skin doctor before trying any natural home remedy if it includes any irritating ingredients. Garlic oil remedy for hair loss - at bedtime, puncture a couple of garlic pearles, squirt the oil on the scalp, massage, cover with a cap, shampoo and rinse in the morning. Try using double-strength herbal sage tea as a hair rinse or apply to scalp every day as a tonic.

Onion juice and honey remedy for hair loss: prepare a hair-growing elixir by combining 1/4 cup of onion juice with one tablespoon of honey; massage the scalp with the mixture every day. Massage the scalp with the fingers daily. Polygonum Multiflorum is a traditional Chinese cure for hair loss; whether the plant itself is useful, the general safety and quality control of herbs imported from China can be questionable.

Raw onion remedy for hair loss - take half a raw onion and massage the scalp with it; cover the head overnight, shampoo and rinse in the morning. Fingernail buffer for hair loss: strange as it may sound - three times a day or so, for about five minutes, buff your right fingernails with the fingernails of your left hand; this is supposed to stop hair loss, encourage hair growth and prevent hair from graying. Russian cure with honey and vodka remedy for hair loss - combine one tablespoon honey with one jigger of vodka and the juice of a medium-size onion; rub mixture into the scalp every night, cover with a cap and shampoo in the morning.

To prevent further hair loss, consider a healthier lifestyle - eat a more plant-based diet, and get plenty of exercise; be good to your immune system. Treatment for alopecia can be slow and sometimes not successful; the more hair that's lost, the more you may have to work at it to get it back and in some cases may not be able to; but try as many natural non-invasive treatments and remedies as possible. Consider all your natural options first; change your diet to one that's more natural with lots of fruits and veggies.

Animals of Peru

Due to the existence of the Andes Mountains, the Amazon River and the Pacific Ocean, Peru has the one of the greatest bio-diversities in the world. This Andean country is one of the 17 countries on earth that is home to 80% of the total world biodiversity. Peru is host to 53 protected areas with over 1,800 species of birds of which 120 are endemic to Peru, hundreds of mammals, including pumas and bears while the coast has a great deal of marine life including sea lions, penguins and other seabirds.

Among the best known of members of the Peruvian wildlife family are the bespectacled bear, the llama, alpaca and vicuna, the condor, viscachas, the puma, tapirs and otters. Found in high, rocky areas deemed largely unsuitable for agriculture is the bespectacled bear. It is predominantly brown or black in color with shading around the neck and chest in white, cream or orange with each eye encircled by a ring, which gives it its name. It is a relatively small animal with the males weighing about 175 pounds and the females about 135 pounds. Its feet have five sharp, short and powerful claws which are used for climbing and tearing trees apart. It eats wild fruits and particularly enjoys eating figs, as well as leaves, insects, small animals, herbs and grasses. It lives in tree tops and builds a nest every night for sleeping.

The llama, alpaca, vicuna and guanaco are members of the camelid family and are characterized by having no horns, being cud-chewing and having an even number of toes and padded feet. They are very social animals and are best when pastured together. They differ not only in size but in ear shape, hair, fleece and curvature of the back. Alpacas have symmetrical pear-shaped ears and shorter noses while llamas have ears that are longer and shaped like a banana. The shape of the alpaca's back has a slight upward curve while the back of the llama is straight. Llamas are descendants of the guanaco while the alpaca was domesticated from the wild vicuna.

Vicunas are the smallest of the camelids, weighing between 70 and 90 pounds and having a height of about 36 inches at the withers. The color of the wool is light brown on the dorsal side and white on the belly and chest. Both vicuna and guanacos are not domesticated animals. The guanaco has a sle fashion coats online nder body with a wooly, thick and short coat that is brown in color. The legs are also brown with a necklace of white hair. They grow to 46 to 68 inches in height and weigh between 200 and 300 pounds.

Viscachas are a type of chinchilla that are about the size of a rabbit with large hind limbs for leaping and dense, soft fur. They have relatively large heads and range in color from gray to black. Not including the tail, they are between 11.8 and 23.6 inches long with the tail being between 2.9 and 10.5 inches long. They typically weigh between 1.1 and 19.8 pounds and live in rocky outcrops, scrub and grasslands.

The Andean Condor is one of the world?s largest birds with a wingspan up to 12 feet wide. They are brown when young, changing to predominantly black as an adult with a white collar and often white coloring on the tops of the wings. The head and neck are bald, and the birds are ungainly when on the ground. In the air however they seem to glide effortlessly on thermals and make for an impressive sight.

The animals described above are largely found in the Andean region of Peru. Much of Peru however is made up of the Amazon basin which is of course the world's most biologically diverse region and teeming with wildlife. Wherever you choose to visit you are sure to encounter at least some of Peru's rich fauna.

Tips for the Professional Women to Stay Cool in the Summer Heat

Dressing professionally can be a challenge during the summer months. When the heat gets up to over 80 degrees, and the humidity is high traditional business dress can really be a drag. Whether you are or a male or female professional, trying to figure out how to look good and fit in with the business profile, and wear something that's going to be comfortable in the heat can be a challenge.

In general, the northeast and Midwest regions trend to dress more traditionally in professional surroundings, regardless of the heat. If you live in the western or southern states, conversely, tend to dress a little bit more casually or more relaxed than the traditional dress side.

Regardless of which region you live in, there are things that you can do when the heat index rises to be able to deal with looking good and being hot. The challenge is not when you're in an air-conditioned are, the challenge is what you get outside whether you're doing sales calls, or meeting people in the general public.

Remember that your dress sends silent messages to others. It is your visual image that people tend to notice first when forming impressions of you. Make sure your summer look is credible and polished to attract more clients and gain greater career growth. Here are some tips that women can follow to look professional, but still stay cool in the heat of the summer.

For starters, wear a professional solid color dress with an open-weave sweater as a jacket or opt for a dressy cotton blouse, and work skirt worn at the knee area. A dress or skirt is always cooler than wearing a pantsuit. It's pure physics, you're able to get a cooler draft from the opening in the dress or the skirt. Remember that a light to medium color is always more professional than a dress or skirt in a bold, wild print. And, where lighter colors because the white reflects heat were dark attracts heat.

Consider the material that you're wearing. Select blouses made out of the natural fabrics like cotton, silk or linen. Linen and cotton are great choices for the summer because they are natural fibers and they breathe nicely. You want to make sure you are wearing something that can transfer in a wick away the moisture. Looser fitting fabrics also allow the air to circulate and are cooler than tight fitting fabrics. When you also add a lower stylish neckline like a v-neck, scoop neck, or square neckline you will avoid having anything up by your neck, allowing more airflow. However, be cautious that you do not bare too much skin or cleavage. Conservative is the key, make sure you're wearing something for work, not for dinner.

The same thing goes for jackets. If you have to wear a jacket, again, use a jacket that has natural fibers in it so that it is women's coats cool, and gets good airflow. Then it works great although it may wrinkle. If you pick a color that's neutral, you can use the same jacket over an overweight different tops.

If your dress code allows you to go barelegged and your legs are flawless, you can do so, but remember you will lose a little credibility here. If you do decide to go without wearing hose, it's a good idea to tan your legs, or get a self tanning lotion. The enhanced darkness of the skin tone will make it look as though you are wearing hose.

If you do have to wear hose at work, there are things you can do. Here are a few shortcuts to keeping cool if your dress code at work requires hosiery. Try wearing dress trousers with knee-hi hosiery, or select a dress or skirt which, when worn with hosiery will be cooler than a pantsuit. Remember, you don't need to wear hose that gold all the way up.

When choosing footwear, some of the same concepts will apply. The lighter the color the shoe, the cooler it will be. Take shoes that have open until, or are more strapped like. Of course, you need to make sure you pick something that makes sense for the office, but the more air that you can get flowing through the shoes the cooler you will be.

For those of you that must wear full suits, take a look at the lining. Typically, suits made for summer have thinner lining sometimes no lining all. The thinner lining is again allow for air to flow through easier. For suits and core wardrobe pieces, stay away from dark colors and black, which absorb the heat. Select lighter-colored fabrics like eggshell, camel, tan, taupe or light grey. Another tip is to search for bracelet sleeves in suits, which expose the lower portion of your arms.

Consider getting a shorter haircut. Or getting a hairstyle that's layered. Approximately 20% of their body heat that you have is transferred through the top of your head, so the more hair you have on your head the more you insulate that heat from being able to escape. If you love wearing your hair long, you will want to wear it up in a smart, stylish hairstyle to look professional and get it off your neck in the heat. Consider wearing a classic ponytail or the front part pulled up and off your face. However, be sure that your hairstyle is not too casual. If you wear a weekend look like a messy bun, it does not blend in with the professional message that your clothes are sending.

Applying these tips will make sure that you don't sweat it too bad during the summer and you still look great.

Horsemanship 101

Taking care of a horse can be a fun and rewarding experience. Just like any domesticated animal or pet, they rely on us for their wel women's jackets l-being.

The first basic step in caring for your horse is to provide adequate feed, water, and forage. Grain comes in a variety of forms, such as pellets or textured. The compressed brand being granulated into pellets, and textured grain (also called sweet feed), allows you to visible see the oats, corn, and molasses. The preference is yours, but keep in mind your horse may prefer, perform, and thrive better on one versus the other. The amount of grain that you feed your horse will depend on his performance level, general health, and nutritional needs. The type of hay that you provide is also your choice. There are several varieties, such as timothy, orchard grass, coastal, alfalfa, as well as any mixture of the two. The amount fed will vary on type of hay and quality, as well as your animal's specific needs. Availability of hay is generally local, so contact your supplier. Be advised that horses need a lot of water, and their buckets will need to be cleaned regularly. Many horses have the habit of dunking their hay and grain into their water while eating (similar to dunking doughnuts into your coffee).

Keep in mind it as harmful to your animal to overfeed as it is to underfeed, so consult your veterinarian if you need help in managing your horse's weight.

After your horse has eaten, you will surely need to clean his stall. Daily cleaning is recommended. There are several bedding types that you can utilize, including sawdust, shavings, and straw. Sawdust is very easy to use. The wet spots and manure can be easily removed while sifting out the bedding that is still clean. Pay attention to your bedding, some allergy sensitive horses can develop problems if the sawdust is too dry. Some horses develop hives from straw, so it is best to see what type of bedding is best for your horse.

Coat conditioning is enjoyable to the horse, as well as good for him. Basic brushes you will need to brush your horse area curry comb, which loosens old hair and dirt as well as brings the natural oils to the surface. A stiff brush to flick away the loosened particles, and a soft finishing brush for the face will also be necessary. A woman's hairbrush or comb for the mane and tail works wonderfully. A good way to keep the mane and tail clean, long, and tangle free is to braid them. The mane can be braided into several sections, as well as one braid for the tail. Wash and redo them periodically. Horses do not need full bathes unless they are extremely sweaty or muddy. In such circumstances, dish soap works just as well as more expensive horse shampoos. Toweling a sweaty horse down after a workout is actually more beneficial, especially in cold weather. It also brings oils to the surface, leaving your horse with a naturally glossy sheen.

Hoof care is an essential element of horse care. A horse generally needs his hooves trimmed every six to eight weeks. Shoes are optional, but a good way to look at it is this: Wouldn't you rather wear sneakers than walk or run on stones barefoot? Your horse feels the same way. Clean the hoof daily if possible. Use a hoof pick to remove all debris and stones, since bruises can lead to an abscess.

It is important to remember that some horses will not be amiable to grooming or hoof care right away. They may also get scared if you clean their stalls while they are in them. Move slowly around the horse as not to startle them. Talk in a soothing voice; reassure them that you will not harm them. Take your time with the animal until he learns to trust you.

Preventive Measures to Avoid Any Living

The worse thing which can happen is that when a hunter mistaken a target, and shot a human being. Hunters must know the rules and regulations which applied by the authorities when he go for hunting, to avoid the fatal accident against other hunters.

On a few occasions I have been able to smell deer before I saw them. I have never succeeded in killing any of these without a chase, but the odor is so distinctive that there was no mistaking it. On an average day this odor is not noticeable, but when the air is damp and heavy with the threat of rain, all of the forest odors hug the ground; and under t women's coats hese conditions a deer may be located by scent if the air movement is towards the hunter and if the deer has just left its bed. Of course, it is impossible to kill a deer by shooting at its scent.

Since so many inanimate objects may be mistaken for game by hunters who are mentally conditioned to expect to see game, the possibilities of mistaking living objects is very great. When a hunter has nearly decided that an object might be a deer and that object makes definite and unmistakable movements which seem to confirm his opinion, there is an almost irresistible impulse to shoot lest the animal sneak off without allowing a clearer view. This impulse should be resisted.

There is no great harm done by shooting at an inanimate object and, usually, a few dollars will appease the owner of any livestock that might be killed in mistake for game. But the very fact that a mistake has been made reveals a tendency to shoot without proper identification; and unless this tendency is corrected, there is always a strong possibility that sooner or later that hunter may mistake a human for game.

Such a tragic mistake cannot be corrected by any amount of regret. No man is entirely immune to making mistakes. My experience with the deer which wasn't there proved to me that I was not infallible. Since that time I have been doubly cautious while in the woods. I have tried to condition myself to the idea that I am more apt to see another hunter than I am to see a deer, also to view each suspected object with the idea of proving that it is or is not a man. The idea of wearing clothing of a distinctive color as a protection is good; however, while it undoubtedly prevents many accidents, it does not afford complete protection. The common red and black, or red and green, wool coat or jacket absorbs light rays instead of reflecting them and on cloudy days or at dawn and dusk these fabrics do not show their true color. The newer smooth-finish reflective-fabrics in the bright red color are easily seen at great distances and the color is readily recognized.

My principle objection to the use of red clothing is that it conditions hunters to identify objects by color instead of by their form and actions and as a result they are apt to regard as a deer any object that does not show red. Since the woods are not the exclusive property of deer hunters, this can result in the shooting of non hunters who have a legal right to be in the woods without being compelled to wear red clothing. When we get down to fundamentals, the hunter is responsible for his actions. It is up to each one to prevent accidental shootings, by his conduct and not by the use of protective clothing. No amount of red or any other colored clothing which he is wearing will prevent him from shooting another person regardless of the clothing that other person is wearing. Although red clothing may prevent him from being the victim, it will never prevent him from shooting another.

Basic Dachshund Information for Owners

If you are considering purchasing a Dachshund as a pet, you will benefit from reading basic Dachshund information so you will know what you expect when you take your puppy home. This is a short-legged hound dog that originally came from Germany. The translation of the name means `badger hound`. This is because it was bred to scent and hunt badgers. The long narrow build of the dog has led to it being nicknamed a wiener or sausage dog and in German speaking countries it is called the Dackel or Teckel.

There are three sizes of Dachshunds ?standard, miniature and kaninchen. A fully grown standard Dachshund will weigh between 16 and 28 pounds, a miniature dog will weigh about eleven pounds , but the kaninchen variety is the smallest weighing between 8 and 10 pounds. They also come in three coat varieties ?smooth, long-haired and wire-haired. Of these the wire-haired Dachshunds are the least common. The coats can be almost any color, in either a solid color or two colors.

These are playful and active dogs, well suited for families with children. They love to chase objects and birds and can be challenging to train. They love to dig holes when outside, so if you have a garden in which you keep the dog or let it play, be prepared to find lots of holes. They become really attached to their owners and with their loud bark, they make great watchdogs. They are good dogs with visitors because they will not jump on them. In fact they will appear to be afraid when strangers come to call, which could result in a period of barking. They do not like to be left alone and will whine when they do not have company.

Some of the health problems associated with this dog breed include spinal problems. It is important to take care when feeding the dog because if you allow it to become overweight, this will make the spinal problems worse. They should not be encouraged to jump or to climb stairs because of women's coats the stress this puts on the spine. Another common health problem in Dachshunds is displacement of the kneecap, called luxating patella. You will see if your dog does have this condition quite early as it manifests itself before the dog is six months old.

Training a Dachshund requires time, patience and practice. This breed is known for its independent streak. You should keep the training sessions short ?only about 5 minutes at a time in 2 or 3 repetitions a day. Giving the dog treats is an excellent training method to use because it keeps the dog interested in what is happening. Although it is easier to train a puppy, you can also achieve positive results with an adult Dachshund. They love praise and when you heap praises on your dog, you will have a loyal devoted companion. From the age of 4 months on, the dog will try to assert itself as the leader of the pack. It is during this time that you have to be assertive in letting the dog know who is boss of the household. If you do not, you will have problems with the puppy that will extend into adulthood. Training an adult Dachshund requires different methods, such as incentives and dog training equipment.

Gentle Care for Long Hair

When you decide to grow your hair out long, one of the things you have to be most careful about is how much you damage it. You probably know that most dyes and perms are hard on your hair, just as heat is, but the things you do to it every day without even thinking can do quite a bit of damage as well.

When you wash your hair, you may be in the habit of washing the entire length. But really the part that needs it is the roots. So shampoo only that part. The rest will generally be adequately cleaned by the shampoo running down it and by the conditioner you use.

If you think about that, you may quickly realize that this means you should not be piling your hair on top of your head to wash it. Piling it up like that is more likely to damage your hair than just letting it hang down your back as you wash the part that really needs it.

Make sure you use a conditioner every time you wash your hair, and use a good one. This will help you when you are combing your hair, as tangles will come out more easily.

Towel dry your hair gently too. Don't scrub your scalp, as this damages and knots the hair. You can use a towel turban or just have a towel across your back for your hair to dry on. This is far gentler on your hair.

Obviously, don't use a hot blow dryer either. Use a cool one if you must, but letting your hair air dry on its own is best.

Use a good quality comb to remove tangles from your hair when it is dry. Avoid doing this to wet hair, as it is more easily damaged when wet. A good comb is cut from a single piece of plastic, not one that is cast from a mold. If your comb has rough spots it can do tremendous damage to the length of your hair.

Comb by starting with the first few inches, and working your way up. You do not want to be tugging knots down the entire length of your hair, catching more knots as you go. You'll do better to get the knots lower down first.

If you come to a difficult knot, start working at it from the bottom, smoothing that out, and working your way up through it gently. Try not to tug a lot.

Many people with long hair like to give it a little oil to keep the length of it in excellent condition. You can use extra virgin olive oil, but my personal preference is for jojoba oil. Just take a small drop of your preferred oil, rub it between your hands and stroke your hands down the ends of your hair. You do not have to do the entire length, and too much oil will of course make your hair appear oily.

But good care is about more than washing and combing. You also need to think about what you're doing to your hair. You don't want it to get caught by your purse strap, laptop carrying case strap or any other strap. You don't want it caught by your coat collar. Move your hair as necessary to keep these away.

A lot of people with long hair wear it up regularly because it's just better for it. This is especially true if you're going to be out on a windy day. A simple bun or braid can protect your hair. It's also fun having your hair up most of the time, then surprising the people who thought they knew you when they find out how much hair you really have!

Despite what some people think or what this may sound like, having long hair doesn't have to be a ton of work. Many attractive hair styles tak women's jackets online e less time than curling a shorter head of hair would, and you don't have to go to the salon nearly as often. Just take good care of your long hair for the maximum benefit and pleasure.

English Setter Puppy And Dog Information

The English Setter is a calm dog indoors but very active outside. She needs plenty of exercise. A properly fenced in yard would help her get her exercise but she is a digger and climber so beware when designing her enclosure. She can tend to be a barker so be prepared to train her early. She can tend to wander off after a scent so keep tabs on her. She is generally good with other pets except birds and rodents. She is also good with older children and generally has a high bite inhibition. As a reminder, never leave children unsupervised with a dog or puppy.

*Approximate Adult Size. The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the male English Setter is 24 to 27 inches to the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 55 to 80 pounds. The female ranges from 23 to 26 inches to the withers and 45 to 70 pounds.

*Special Health Considerations. Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the English Setter is no exception. Be on the look out for canine hip dysplasia (genetic based looseness in the hip joint that can lead to arthritis pain and lameness), and false pregnancies. They may gain weight quickly so do not over feed. This disease list is an informative guideline only. Other diseases may also be significant threats, please contact your veterinarian for a complete list.

Sh women's coats e should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check up. Then, as an adult, she should visit the veterinarian yearly for shots and check up. As she gets older, six years and on, she should visit the veterinarian twice a year for check ups and shots. Remember; avoid feeding your dog sweets.

*Grooming. The English Setter has flat, soft medium coat. that sheds medium. She should be bathed or dry shampooed when necessary. She should be brushed regularly. Brushing will help her maintain a clean and healthy coat, avoid mats, tangles and burrs and help you keep a closer eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with her. Her hair at the bottom of her feet may need to be trimmed.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

*Life Span. The English Setter can live between 10 and 12 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.

*History. The English Setter comes from England where they were bred from pointers and Spanish spaniels. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 1878.

Salad Toppings: Top 10 Ways To Make Your Salads More Tasty And Filling!

Copyright (c) 2011 Monica Shah

OK, so summer is approaching very quickly and most of us are turning our attention to getting in shape in time for bathing suit season. At this time of year, salads become our friends. We turn to them for their delicious lightness, for a quick bite and for their tried and true body shaping qualities.

But uninteresting salads can make for a very dull meal and a very unhappy eater. And if you don't top a salad the right way, you are going to very hungry, very quickly.

So here my top ten salad toppings to turn your salads from boring to delightful! Some of these tips are useful for eati women's coats ng salads at restaurants and others are for homemade ones. If you decide to create homemade salads and bring them with you to work, you may want to try those new salad plastic containers that hold the salad in one part and the dressing in another. That way your salad and salad toppings will be crispy when you decide to eat them.

1. Double the lean protein (turkey, chicken, eggs, fish) - add chicken and turkey or salmon and eggs. Do this especially if you often feel hungry after your salads. A little more protein may help you go the extra mile to avoid the vending machine in the afternoon.

2. Add beans, like black, kidney, cannelloni, or garbanzo. Beans have lots of great complex carbs, fiber and protein. They also help to fill you up and keep you that way.

3. Create your own dressings as salad toppings. My favorite is a combination of orange juice, balsamic vinegar, and Grey Poupon mustard. You can add some olive oil to make it even richer. I especially like this dressing with spinach leaves.

4. Add some fruit. Fruit can be great salad toppings. It can turn a boring salad into a sweet sensation. My favorites are: orange slices (fresh or canned), strawberries, blueberries, and pineapple slices (fresh or canned). If you are using canned, sugar-free fruit, use the juice to mix into the salad dressing.

5. Add some hummus, Baba-Ganoush or mashed white beans to your salad or salad dressing. This may sound odd, but it is actually quite delightful.

6. Make your own glazed nuts as salad toppings. Dry roast some walnuts or pecans and then add some honey or maple syrup to the pan to coat the nuts. Take them out of the pan and separate them before they cool, so they don't clump. The nuts become a flavorful addition to a boring salad. This is great if you have a sweet tooth that you are trying to control.

7. Add cooked diced sweet potatoes or regular potatoes. Dice some potatoes into squares. Coat them in some olive oil and fresh rosemary and roast them until they are soft. Then toss them over mesclun greens. I especially like this salad with roasted asparagus spears and sliced eggs.

8. Add apples and pears. Cube up some apples and/or pears and sprinkle these on top of your salad. I especially like to mix apples and pears with walnuts and have them over spinach.

9. Skip the leaves. Chop up tomatoes, cucumbers, and avocadoes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon juice. Enjoy.

10. Change up your vinegars and oils. Spend some time in the oil and vinegar aisle at your local health food store. A new vinegar or oil can really change up your dressings and make for tasty salad toppings. Try mixing apple cider vinegar with apple juice and spicy mustard. Or rice wine vinegar with mirin wine (in the oriental section) and orange juice. Another suggestion: toasted sesame oil and rice wine vinegar with orange slices over cabbage greens.

Let me know if you have any other great suggestions! Thanks and Enjoy.

Don't Do What Everyone Else is Doing

Denim is a versatile fabric that has stood the test of time. Over the ages, the styles have evolved but little else has changed. It can be worn casually or semi-casually based on the accessories that go with it. Jeans was considered work clothes until the 1950s but then the new era of fashion jeans began when film and pop stars like Elvis Presley and Marlon Brando wore them. It became a hit with teenagers and thus began a long history of several film stars wearing them and also launching their own brands and styles which have their own fan following.

Designer denim jeans on the other hand are a new addition to the family of denim. The evolution of designer jeans began in Europe and once the wave of bell-bottoms subsided designer jeans flooded the market and became the craze. There are several names like Yanuk, Taverniti and others that come to mind.

The history of Yanuk denim is interesting. The owner is known as the denim godfather. Yanuk's slogan is "Do not do what everyone else is doing".

Designer jeans focused on denim fabrics with some vintage wash women's coats techniques thrown in for effect otherwise known as distressed denim. This type of denim is also termed as pre-washed, stonewashed, acid washed, ravaged/aged, white washed and super bleached. The resulting fabric has a pre-work look. The trend now is to buy jeans that already look pre-worn. Yanuk is a leading supplier for distressed denim.

Designer jeans are made from high-quality fabrics milled in the United States, Japan, Italy and other places, and processed with cutting-edge treatments and finishes. The concepts, designs, embellishments, patent-pending pockets and great attention to detail and quality give it a competitive advantage in the high-end fashion jeans market.

Yanuk jeans came into popularity due to its friendly approach to shaping women's backside. Yes, you got it. Their mission is to make you love your butt. Their unique detailing makes it very flattering and has become popular with women of all ages. Once they got the women's line of jeans going, they launched the men's collection. They also launched a children's clothing line recently.

The most popular showcase of these varieties of designer jeans is the Fashion Week. The top designers show their collections and these shows are attended by high profile personalities like buyers for major stores, the media, fashion stylists, stars and other wealthy clientele. These shows usually take place twice a year and are held in the fashion capitals of Paris, Milan, London, New York and Tokyo. Designer jeans and accessories play a large part in these shows with several film stars buying and wearing these jeans and largely increasing the brands popularity among the consumers.
Other brands owned this group are Antik Denim and Taverniti So. These brands are also immensely popular with all age groups especially the teens and each have its own fan base depending on which star endorses it.

Film stars have long endorsed jeans and wear them in public in casual settings, catwalks and also on the red carpet on many award winning nights. Jeans are here to stay for a long time to come due to their versatility. With the advent of the internet, it is possible to buy clothes off the web cheaply and often there are good bargains to be had. Yanuk, Taverniti and Antik jeans are sold in a variety of online clothing stores.

Building Model Ships - A Fanciful Hobby

A workmanlike finish with varnish means your ship model will be extremely well presented and durable. In the case of old-time ship models the bulk of the materials employed are wood, paper, card and plaster, with only a few metallic parts; and of the woodwork, the most important is the hull.

Supposing this to be plank built, it will need only very carefully sandpapering with old well-worn but clean fine paper, followed by a dusting, and then by one coat of clear crystal varnish. This should be allowed to dry hard and then be carefully but lightly rubbed down with sandpaper, dusted, and given a second and rather more generous coat of varnish.

This treatment leaves the wood in its natural colors, but if a deeper and richer effect with a very high gloss is desired it will be necessary to employ a high grade carriage varnish and to give two or three coats, each allowed to dry hard, prior to rubbing down with fine sandpaper, or preferably with pumice powder.

To rub down a varnished surface with pumice powder, put some of the powder in a linen bag, an old handkerchief folded into four answering very well. Draw the corners upwards and tie them together with string, leaving a f women's coats lat part at the bottom of the bag which can be used as the rubbing surface. Dip the pad in water and rub lightly and briskly over the surface of the dry varnish, using a circular motion.

Keep the varnish and the pad moistened with water to prevent the varnish lifting or pulling up, as it would do if the surface became hot by friction. Endeavour to produce a perfectly smooth even surface, marble-like in appearance and texture. Similar measures can be employed when rubbing down for French polish, or to impart a fine surface on paintwork.

The final coat of varnish is generally left plain, but can be rubbed down in this way and polished afterwards with linseed oil and a trace of beeswax dissolved in turpentine, and rubbed on as if French polishing.

The foregoing is an excellent finish for mahogany or other woods used for deck houses and the like, and for the masts and spars. Usually on small model work it is unnecessary to give a preliminary coating of size or filling, but this may be occasionally needed.

Varnishes ought to be applied with a medium soft brush, and flowed on or applied rather thickly; it is difficult to describe how much varnish to use, but it must be sufficient to flow together after the brush has passed, thus obliterating the brush marks, but it must not be too generous or it will run down into miniature rivulets and never dry flat and uniform in appearance. Try to apply a coat absolutely uniform in thickness, use a proper "varnish brush," the best quality varnish, and success will surely follow if the work is guided by commonsense.

A good deal of the paintwork has to be done on the model at various stages of its completion.

Back scenes on scenic models are generally done with ordinary water colors or poster colors. Plaster waves or other parts are generally painted with oil colors, or with poster colors if the plaster surfaces are previously gone over with a light coat of crystal varnish or a thin coat of clear shellac varnish, either of which closes the pores and stop the "suction," thus enabling a uniform surface of color to be attained.
When varnishing and painting are completed, your ship will give much pleasure to you and all who view her.
